Resident Evil Village: Rune Work isn’t for everyone. If you play RE for explosive barrels and shotgun headshots, skip it. But if you’re the type who reads every file, zooms in on paintings, and loves Silent Hill’s occult puzzles, this is a brilliant excavation of Capcom’s lore. It proves that beneath the werewolves and vampire ladies lies a language waiting to be read.
The central thematic pillar of the Village is the perversion of the sacred. The game borrows heavily from the iconography of Catholicism, but it inverts the sacrament. In traditional theology, the Eucharist is the consumption of the divine to sustain the mortal spirit.
