A DARPA scientist (James Badge Dale) is deployed to a war-torn European city where soldiers are being killed by mysterious, ghost-like entities that can phase through matter. He must use his scientific knowledge to find a way to fight these “spectral” beings.

The U.S. military brings in Dr. Mark Clyne (James Badge Dale), a brilliant but reluctant DARPA weapons developer. His state-of-the-art "hyperspectral imaging" goggles, a form of revolutionary military technology, are being used to identify enemy forces. However, the goggles are detecting strange, ghostly apparitions—entities that have been nicknamed "Spectral" and that no one can otherwise see or explain.
