Dedijer’s backing gave Marić access to circles that would otherwise have been impossible to penetrate. Furthermore, Marić also received guidance from Milovan Đilas, the famous Yugoslav dissident who was imprisoned for criticizing Tito. Although Đilas could not make public statements, he helped Marić verify the accuracy of the data he had collected.
