The movie takes place in a world where Megamind grows up to become a genius-level intellect with a passion for inventing and causing chaos. He creates an elaborate plan to take over Metro City, but his arch-nemesis, Metro Man (voiced by Brad Pitt), always thwarts his plans.

Instead of finding eternal bliss in ruling Metro City, Megamind falls into a deep existential crisis. Without a hero to fight, his life loses all purpose. To remedy this, he creates a new hero named Titan (voiced by Jonah Hill), only for his creation to become a far worse villain than Megamind ever was.
